I ordered this gate because I needed something that was sturdy, easy to operate with one hand, and honestly just made sense in a house with two little boys running in opposite directions. I’ve used plenty of safety gates before, and most of them either feel flimsy, look out of place, or require a small engineering degree to install. This one was such a pleasant surprise.The wood design is actually really pretty in person — it doesn’t have that cheap plastic feel a lot of gates have, and it blends nicely with our home instead of sticking out like a big eyesore. Installation was simple enough that I didn’t have to ask my husband to stop what he was doing; I got it up and pressure-mounted on my own during nap time, and it’s been solid ever since. It doesn’t shift around or loosen like many adjustable gates tend to do.What I appreciate most is the extra-wide opening. I’m constantly carrying a toddler, a diaper bag, or both, and being able to walk through without feeling like I’m squeezing sideways makes a big difference. Works great, door can be tough to open for older kids
This baby gate is well constructed and I do really like the faux wood look rather than black or white. However, I was a little disappointed when I read the instructions and it required me to screw cups to the wall. I understand this totally prevents the gate from moving, but I thought the function of a pressure mounted gate was to avoid screwing things in place. The one perk of this, though, is that it’s still easily removable as I don’t need it up other than when I have young nieces and nephews over.The downside of this gate is that my 4 year old can’t get through it. My 6.5 year old can eventually get it open but even she has a little bit of a hard time sliding the lock and picking the door up. Luckily this is only temporary use anyway, it for every day use it would get annoying.The gate itself is lightweight and very easy for me to maneuver, even at my short stature. It’s plenty tall to keep young kids out, and I’d be surprised if a dog was able to jump this one.Overall it is a good product, but opening the door is a bit clunky, and therefore my reduction of a star.
