The core of this changing pad is a foam mattress which has a thin white fabric cover that is removable if you ever had a reason to remove it. This pad comes vacuum packed. Whether it’s ever going to lay perfectly flat, I don’t know, but it’s not bad. The outer cover is made of faux leather andalso has a zipper. The seam tag on this surprisingly says this outer cover is NOT washable. It is wipeable but I think they mean they do not recommend putting it in the washing machine. Part of the issue may actually be the fuzzy backing of the faux-leather material. If it got dirty enough, I think I’d bend the “rules” and hand-wash this.I do not trust the strap on this to keep a baby from rolling off the side. On most changing pads that have a strap, the bed is contoured and the strap works together with the raised sides to hold the baby. On this pad there is less structural integrity, and a baby lying on this pad on a flat surface could surely roll off the side of the pad because the other edge of the pad would be lifted by the pull of the strap, if that makes sense. The foam mattress is flexible. The strap on this should not be relied upon. That doesn’t mean the pad shouldn’t be used; A changing pad does not HAVE to have a strap. Also, some people have a changing table with rails and may prefer this flat pad for it (if so, measure to be sure it fits). For those using this pad on furniture that lacks railings, there are gripper dots on the bottom side, so it won’t slide off your table or dresser.One thing I like about this is that although it is definitely smaller than a toddler nap mat, it might could serve as that in a pinch, for a younger toddler, in a travel situation for instance. You can actually buy fitted sheets that will fit a changing pad (again, double check that they would fit the dimensions of this one). At 31″ long this pad is about as long as a one year old is tall so their feet will hang off the end if used in that way. Nevertheless, that is a suggestion as a secondary use for this item that may make it a smart multifunctional purchase. It’s also not thick enough to be super cushioning for a toddler to sleep on–certainly not for the night, not even when traveling. Nevertheless, the idea of this as an emergency nap mat appeals to me as one argument in this flat pad’s favor if you’re torn between getting this one or one with a U-shaped profile that keeps an infant from rolling off the side.

This is a straightforward, no-frills changing pad. It’s not contoured and it doesn’t fold, so what you see is what you get. The surface is covered in a soft, wipeable faux-leather material that feels nice to the touch and is easy to clean, which is definitely important with a baby product. It also comes with a safety strap to help keep your little one secure during changes.The bottom has a non-slip backing that really does help keep the pad in place on top of a dresser or changing table—you don’t feel like it’s sliding around. The overall profile is low and minimal, which I personally like because it doesn’t take over the whole space or look bulky.If you’re looking for something simple, functional, and easy to maintain, this gets the job done well. It’s not fancy, but it’s practical and reliable, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
