Ocean: A Photicular Book
$27.00

A New York Times bestseller, Ocean is like being on a dive.
Using Photicular technology—an innovative lenticular-based technology that uses precision sliding lenses and four-color video imagery—each image is like a 3D movie on the page, delivering a rich, fluid, immersive visual experience. Open the book, and the reader is swept into the magic of an underwater world, face-to-face with a floating Yellow-Banded Sweetlips; with a glow-in-the-dark Deep-Sea Anglerfish; with a Sea Horse swaying in balletic motion; with a Sand Tiger Shark gliding along the ocean floor, its gaze haunting, its hook-toothed mouth gulping open and closed.
The text by Carol Kaufmann enchants with its descriptions of coral reefs; a journey on Alvin, the 17-ton submersible; and a meditation on our oceans. Then, for each creature, she writes a lively and informative essay, along with vital statistics—size, habitat, range, diet, and more.

Not for children 2 to 7, though the moving effects in the pictures will entertain.
The book and its moving picture effects are lovely, but I do not consider it a children’s book. The Amazon guidance for Ocean was 2 to 7 years of age. No part of the book narrative seems to fit that age group. It is a lovely book. but children will want only the pictures.

Not just for children
It took a long time to receive the book but worldofbooksusa was responsive when I followed up because the book was overdue. If orders are late, don’t wait but contact the seller, any seller, promptly. I would purchase from them again. Like the other photiclar books, Ocean is full of stunning images rippling with movement. Children and adults find the lenticular art amazing and enchanting. Older adults with dementia find it stimulating and enjoyable. These books hold up well and are definitely worth the cost.

Amazing graphics capturing the attention of all ages!
This book was amazing. I got it for my nephew (age 4) for Christmas and all the kids (ages 1-8) were mesmerized by it. The graphics and movement of the fish was soo cool. I could see the kids looking at it over and over again- laughing at the fish and sharks. There is a lot of information on ocean animals in the book too- for any ocean lover (definitely aimed towards an older age range!)– but even the youngest kids will enjoy the graphics and pictures! I am definitely thinking about purchasing the other books in the series now! I wish I had taken some pictures to post here of just how cool it was!!

Perfect gift for a child
Wondering what to give that special needs child in your life — or any child at all — these Photicular books are fabulous! They provide fascinating entertainment and open up the whole wide world and its mysteries not just for children but for adults, too. The families we have given them to have been enjoying each one so very much.

🙀
I know from other copies I have seen that this is a beautiful and fun book, but mine was from a disreputable seller. Be cautious buying used. Mine was literally garbage. Several pages were cemented together, photos bent/warped beyond usability, etc.Unfortunately, I trusted someone else with the return and they didn’t bother, so I wasted my money.

Great for all ages!!
I love these books!! I have a granddaughter who loves animals and even tho she is almost 3 she knows all of her animals. In fact my son says she even corrects him when he calls the animal the wrong name. Anyway, I bought these with her in mind and lo and behold these books keep all my grandchildren entertained, as well as the adults. It would be great to see future books with possibly forest animals, maybe desert animals, flying animals, creepy crawlies…the possibilities are endless!! Keep up the good work on these and I look forward to future books as well.

I bought this book at the same time as another in the series – Safari (Safari: A Photicular Book (Photicular Books)), which I had seen in a local book shop and decided I wanted to order as a present for my son.The book might seem expensive, but it is thoroughly worth the price for the quality of what you get. And in reality this is more than just a book, as you’ll see from the pictures and short video I’ve uploaded. The ‘photicular’ images in the book, are akin to short videos, made up of a series of separate static images that are viewed in sequence as you turn each page. The effect is really quite stunning. The downside is each page has to be quite thick in order to incorporate all the ‘photicular’ gubbins, so there are only eight ‘images’ in the book, each of which include a detailed write-up and facts and figures about the sea creature depicted. These are sweetlips, octopus, sea horse, shark, sea turtle, moray eel, sea nettle and anglerfish. However, you do also get a single page introduction to how the ‘photicular’ images work, and a 10 page introductory story from the author about a diving trip, to set the scene. This book makes a great gift, and an interesting novelty to get out and show friends who’ve never seen photicular images before. Has to be experienced to get the full effect – can’t recommend it enough.

I litterally bought for me and not my kids haha. I collect all things 3D and these books are just mesmerizing with how the fish/animals move as you open each page. Very well made quality books! I only have a couple more to get to finish my collection. Out of all 3D books I’ve seen….these ones are by far the best for 3D effect.

El libro es de buena calidad, es barato para lo bien que está encuadernado. Las imágenes increibles, el efecto de movimiento es perfecto. La única pega que debería venir el texto también en español, está escrito en inglés. Lo volvería a comprar sin dudarlo.
